Arthur S. Hardy is an attorney and shareholder in the Sarasota law firm of Matthews Eastmoore. Art received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1984 and his law degree, with high honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1987. While in law school, Art was a member of the University of Florida Law Review and the Order of the Coif. Prior to beginning private practice as a lawyer, he spent two years serving as a judicial clerk to the Honorable William Terrell Hodges, United States District Judge, in Tampa, Florida.
Art is a graduate of the Sarasota County public school system who, after college, law school, and his clerkship, returned home to take primary responsibility for Matthews Eastmoore law firm's representation of the Sarasota County School Board. In addition to providing many of the daily legal needs of the School Board, the attorney is involved in both the School Board's collective bargaining with its more than 5,000 employees and all litigation involving the Board. A Florida Bar Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer, Art is actively involved in the law firm's personal injury cases. In addition to his litigation and government practice, Art has also served as a mediator and arbitrator.
Art joins other Matthews Eastmoore law firm attorneys in the tradition of serving his profession and his community. Art was honored to serve as Special Counsel to Senator Bob Graham in Washington D.C. in the fall of 1999. He has served as President of the Sarasota County Bar Association, as President of the Judge John M. Scheb American Inn of Court, as a Member of the Housing Authority of the City of Sarasota, as Chairman of Leadership Sarasota, and as a member of Mote Marine Laboratory's Advisory Council. Art is also the 2010 recipient of the Judge John M. Scheb American Inn of Court Professionalism Award.
